Gagetown & District Recreation Council, Inc.

The Gagetown Rec Council consists of a small active group of volunteers who work together to provide a variety of recreational activities for Gagetown and our surrounding communities. We meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7 PM at the Recreation Centre. New members are always needed.

We sponsor soccer, softball, hockey and ice skating, volleyball, badminton, children's dance classes, movement education, belly dancing and more. An annual membership fee of $7 per individual or $20 per family is required.

We host an annual Winter Carnival Breakfast each February and the Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st. As part of our fundraising efforts, we manage the parking lots at the Gagetown Music Jubilee in July and at the Queens County Fair in September. We hold two major bottle drives in the spring and fall, canvassing Upper Gagetown to Hampstead. Returnables may be dropped off anytime year round at the McLaughlan's at 32 Babbit Street in the Village. 488-2354.

We have just built our new Gagetown Community Recreation Centre which includes a full size outdoor skating rink. This was achieved through major fundraising efforts, a Provincial Grant, assistance from military personnel of 4ESR Base Gagetown, the Village and many volunteers. This site and building were designed for future development and expansions. There will be an addition of a soccer field and a playground area.

The building has a large open area plus a full function kitchen, 2 large washrooms, a mechanical room and a storage area. We have hosted a Firearms/Hunter Safety Course and several beach volleyball games. Our Summer Program for children, ages toddlers to teens, is now held here and run by summer students. The Moms and Tots group meet on Monday mornings. We participated in the "Spring into Summer" event in June and will be another venue for "Christmas in the Village" in November.

We invite everyone to use this building for meetings, classes, courses, events, and more. There is a small charge to help cover our operating costs. This multi-purpose facility was built by our community for our community. For more information about any of our activities or if you'd like to join our group, please contact a rec council member.
